Marc Law

Professor of Economics at the University of Vermont

Marc T. Law is Professor of Economics at the University of Vermont. His research lies at the intersection of economics, economic history, and the creative industries. Much of his work draws on historical evidence from Western classical music to examine broader questions about creativity, cultural production, and the evaluation of talent. His recent research addresses family background, peer effects, financial constraints, creative labor markets, expert judgment, and gender bias in music competitions. He is co-author, with Karol J. Borowiecki, of What Makes a Great Composer?, forthcoming from Princeton University Press in 2026, and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Cultural Economics. He received his PhD in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.
