Full-time researcher at the Regional Center for Multidisciplinary Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)
Marcos Valdivia is a full-time researcher at the Regional Center for Multidisciplinary Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He holds a BA in Economics from UNAM, a PhD in Economics from the New School for Social Research (New York), and graduate studies in the philosophy of science. His research focuses on urban and regional economics, spatial economics, economic geography, and complexity economics from a multidisciplinary perspective. Together with other colleagues at UNAM, he has been among the pioneers in studying cultural and creative industries (CCI) from an urban and regional economics perspective in Mexico, with particular attention to the Global South. His work also addresses regional convergence, wage inequality, remittances, and territorial development. He has published extensively in international journals and is the author or editor of several books, including Intangible Capital in Mexico (2024), Creative Economy in Mexican Cities (2021), and Economy and Creative Activities in Spain and Mexico (2017).
