Mafalda Dâmaso

Part-time Professor at the European University Institute


Mafalda Dâmaso is Part-time Professor at the European University Institute. Her work centres around cultural/audiovisual policy, cultural diplomacy and relations, and culture in sustainable development, focusing primary on the European Union and its global action. She is the editor of The European Union as a Global Cultural Power (De Gruyter, 2025) and co-editor of The European Union as a global film enabler: Rethinking power, competitiveness and identity (Palgrave, forthcoming) and The Governance of Competitiveness: Rebooting the European Film Industry (Palgrace, forthcoming). She co-edited Regenerative Cultural Policy (International Journal of Cultural Policy, 2025) and Culture and Media as Security Policy (Cultural Trends, forthcoming). Previous affiliations include King’s College London, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Goldsmiths – University of London, the University of the Arts London, Institut Catolique de Paris. She also works regularly for and with European institutions as an expert. She is trained in Sociology and Politics and holds a PhD in Visual Culture from Goldsmiths.
