On 5th February 2025, the Creative PEC convened a roundtable of our Industry Champions network to discuss the main issues relating to AI and copyright and to get a sense of their reaction to the UK government’s AI and Copyright consultation.
The government consultation gained significant attention, with the Intellectual Property Office reportedly receiving over 2,500 stakeholder responses. The Creative PEC’s submission to the consultation can be found here.
This Industry Insight: AI and Copyright report summarises the main insights from the roundtable which was attended by 25 champions from a range of creative industries sub-sectors.
The core topics
The Industry Champions who attended engaged with a number of topics around AI and copyright in relation to the creative industries. These topics included: clarity on law and how it could be enforced; the feasibility of the opt out model suggested in Government plans and the tools needed; and alternatives for policy that work for AI growth and support human creativity.
