Introducing the PEC’s International Council

We’re delighted to announce that the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (PEC) and the British Council are collaborating on an exciting initiative to apply international learnings to the UK’s creative industries, and to strengthen creative economy research and policy globally.

The British Council has convened an International Council on behalf of the PEC, to bring together leading policy and creative economy practitioners from across the world. The group will share international creative economy policy intelligence and research opportunities, and will act as critical friends in reviewing and providing an international perspective on the PEC’s activities.

The PEC’s International Council will be a central component of the PEC’s ability to grow the evidence base needed to develop effective policies for the UK’s creative industries. As increasing numbers of governments across the world adopt active policies to support the creative economy in their countries, the International Council will play an important role in helping the PEC learn from that international experience to understand what is best for policy in the UK. The group will provide a unique range of insights drawn from their experiences in their own countries, and will connect the PEC with others to help to fill further gaps in research and evidence.

The British Council, the UK’s cultural relations organisation, has been contributing to a global creative economy agenda for many years, with programmes and initiatives designed to harness the collective impact and opportunities possible through thriving creative industries. The PEC’s International Council therefore represents an important milestone in the British Council’s distinctive cultural relations approach to knowledge sharing and strengthening networks. It creates an important global forum not only for the PEC and the UK’s creative industries, but for the sharing of best practice and insight globally.
