Savraj Matharu is a multi-award-winning educator and practitioner who operates at the intersection of technology, design, and innovation. With a distinguished career in both industry and academia, Savraj has significantly contributed to globally recognized creative brands and organizations, particularly within creative technology. His dual expertise allows him to seamlessly navigate these domains, driving the development and implementation of innovative digital solutions from concept through to market delivery. Savraj’s skill set spans complex problem-solving, computer programming, and design engineering, all focused on crafting solutions that address contemporary challenges.
In 2016, Savraj founded and launched the Interactive Media Practice Masters at the University of Westminster, the institution’s first STEAM-based master’s program. This pioneering course is designed to meet the demands of Industry 4.0 by fostering interdisciplinary skills, research-informed education, and practice-led learning. It cultivates a start-up culture where students create digital solutions using a range of creative technologies, including AR, VR, Generative AI, connected devices, mobile apps, wearables, RCS, ChatBots, data analytics, and enterprise incubators. The program’s dynamic ecosystem allows students to engage in live projects, hackathons, and direct collaborations with industry leaders and NGOs. Savraj has collaborated with prominent brands such as Adobe, Arm, Coca-Cola, Dell, Nvidia, Orange, and the British Council. His efforts have also played a key role in driving cultural and digital transformation at the University of Westminster. Since the program’s launch, graduates have secured roles at leading global organizations including Orange, Deloitte Digital, KPMG, Santander, Inmarsat, Critical TechWorks, ARM, BMW, CitiBank, GOV UK, and ByteDance, with others founding their own tech start-ups. The program is known for producing pioneering and innovative outputs, from FinTech solutions and voice-controlled technologies to AR/VR-driven problem-solving. It is engineered to develop the next generation of digital professionals, addressing the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution and aligning with the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy.
Savraj is passionately committed to equipping the next generation with the digital skills essential for today’s workforce. His approach to interdisciplinary pedagogy and practice-based learning ensures students receive a world-class education rooted in applied knowledge. He holds multiple degrees in Computing, Design, and Technology, along with an executive program in Leadership and Innovation from MIT. His research focuses on user experience design systems, leadership, digital health, immersive media entertainment, and generative AI.
