Join us for the launch of our fifth report in the State of the Nations series
Wednesday 16th October 2024 | 12:00 – 13:00 (BST) | Online via Zoom
Join us live for the launch of our new State of the Nations report, Growth Finance for Creative Industries.
This report is the first of our second round of State of the Nations report installments.
Venture capital for creative businesses is highly concentrated in the IT sector and in London and the South East. We need new models for innovation finance to support the creative economy. As the Government reviews the funding infrastructure and landscape this is timely and essential new research to be aware of.
Our State of the Nations series is designed to provide the latest data and analysis to support good policy making. The new research will be introduced by Dr. Josh Siepel, Creative PEC Research Lead (R&D, Innovation and Clusters) and Associate Professor, University of Sussex Business School – with the opportunity for audience questions.
Josh Siepel is Senior Lecturer at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex Business School.
He is leading on the PEC’s work on Creative Clusters and Innovation and its work on Access to Finance. His research links together policy-relevant issues involving creative industries, skills, innovation, entrepreneurship and finance. His recent academic research includes work on long-run impact of skills and skills combinations on firm performance, the design of policy tools to support access to finance for SMEs, and the economics of firm growth. His policy work includes the Fusion Effect report for Nesta, the Highly Innovative Firms report for BIS, and the Thin Markets report for BVCA/Nesta, in addition to numerous evaluations of national and regional policies. He has a BS in genetics from Texas A&M University and an MSc and DPhil from the University of Sussex, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
We will be joined by guest speaker, Caroline Norbury, who will be responding to our findings.
Caroline Norbury OBE is the Chief Executive of Creative UK, the independent network for the UK’s Creative Industries working to support and invest in creative talent and businesses, and unite the UK’s creative industries.
