The PECβs open calls for commissioned research are a fantastic opportunity to develop cutting edge ideas and promote the latest studies into the creative industries.Β
The PEC focused its second commissioning call on four sub-themes: Brexit; business model innovation; climate change; and creativity in schools

Digital opportunities for the UK independent music industry: towards building sustainable regional music industry clustersΒ
Dr Allan Watson, Loughborough University,Β will look at whether digital platforms helped the music industry survive COVID-19Β Β
Creative Industries Innovation in Seaside Resorts and Country TownsΒ
Professor Gabriella Giannachi, University of Exeter will examine what we can do to support and grow creative businesses in seaside towns and villages
Exploring post-Brexit migration barriers to attracting international workforce among SMEs in the Creative IndustriesΒ
Dr Mohamed Yacine Haddoud, Liverpool John Moores University, seeks to understand why the UKβs creative industries are struggling to attract an international workforce
Mapping supply chain developments within fashion micro clusters to capture and evidence emerging value chainsΒ
Susan Postlethwaite andΒ Dr. Dawn Ellams, Royal College of Art,Β will be looking at what sustainable fashion supply chains look like and how they produce economic value and growth
Managing transition in the UK fashion sectorΒ
Professor Sandy Black (Centre for Sustainable Fashion) and Dr Alessandra Vecchi, (Fashion Business Research Centre), both based at London College of Fashion, UAL, will be researching how micro to medium sized fashion businesses can drive net zero goals, resilience in times of transition, and sustainable prosperity
Transitioning to Sustainable Production across the UK Theatre Sector
Prof Dr Roberta Mock, University of Plymouth, will build on the pioneering ‘Theatre Green Book’, producing anΒ analysis of the influence of voluntary industry-wide standards and guidelines on the carbon footprints of theatre productions.Β This study is co-funded by Arts Council England
These commissioned research projects will help to diversify the scope of the PECβs research agenda.Β
The project outputs – discussion papers and reports –Β will be published from Autumn 2021 to Spring 2022.Β
