Research Fellow in Innovation and Creative Industries
Dr Jorge Velez-Ospina is a Research Fellow in Innovation and Creative Industries in the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex. His research revolves around the economics of innovation and innovation policies. In his PhD dissertation, he contributed fresh empirical evidence on the allocation of public support to firms and its impact on innovation investment, outcomes and productivity, deepening the understanding of how direct support to innovation in firms through subsidies works in different countries, across industries and over time.
Before joining SPRU, Jorge was a PhD fellow at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and a visiting scholar at United Nations University – MERIT. In the past, he worked for the Ministry of Information and Communication (MINTIC-Colombia). Jorge has also taught multiple semester-long courses on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of microeconomics, business economics and innovation policies. In 2018, he was awarded a Holland Potential Scholarship to conduct an MSc in Public Policy at UNU-MERIT in the Netherlands. He also has masters and undergraduate degrees in economics.
